Châtel's Ski Areas: An Overview:

Chatel is part of the huge Portes Du Soleil winter sports area (197 lifts and 300 pistes!), however, the village itself has some excellent and varied terrain for all abilities. The village has an impressive 41 lifts and 45 ski slopes. The Chatel Espace Liberte pass also covers some other areas, meaning that 63 lifts serving 82 pistes. The skiing areas in and around Chatel can be grouped into the following areas:

Pre-La-Joux:

Along with the Linga area (see below), the Pre-La-Joux area is the entry point to the majority of the huge Portes du Soleil ski area. A large car park (free) and frequent buses from all areas of Chatel mean that this is a popular starting point for a day on the mountain. This area is normally scheduled to open on the last weekend of November or first weekend of December. The area links with the Avoriaz ski area via the Rochassons chairlift.

Linga:

The Linga (pronounced as "langer") ski area is linked to Pre-La-Joux and is also a popular starting point for the day, as there is a decent sized and free car park and frequent buses from all areas of Chatel. The Linga area also hosts the "Stade", the competition slopes for GS and Slalom races and there is also a floodlit area for evening skiing.

Super-Chatel:

The Super-Chatel ski area links with the Barbossine area (see below) and is accessible from the telecabine that starts from the centre of Chatel. There are a wide variety of slopes in this area and a large area for beginners which is popular with the ski schools, particularly the ESF and the board / ski park is also here. From here, you can access the ski areas of Torgon, the Corbeau sector of Morgins and the Braitaz area of La Chapelle D'Abondance (all of which are on the Chatel ski pass).

Barbossine:
